Absolutely hilarious.

My notes from Russ Unger @ Refresh Chicago: Now is a Good Time to Be You

Talking how it’s impossible for ux designers, tech people to describe what we do

What is your career path, where do you go? Another company?

(he’s writing a new book about guerrilla user research)

“give it 5 years. I don’t know if ux is going to be here.”

Stop trying to fit what you do into a box. DTDT = describing the damn thing= describing the damn thing

IA was coined in ‘77 by Richard Saul … (guy who founded TED talks)

Don’t try to be a unicorn. “who the fuck can do all this?!”

Designers should know about code, know how it works, be able to talk about it. Not build the damn thing.

UX is in a weird land grab. Everyone wants it to be everywhere. Everyone is saying they can do it. What happens to ux designers when everyone else does ux too?

Why us? Why are we different? We have all have the talent to do the stuff ahead of us.

Fake it until you make it. We’re not frauds. We’re hackers.

Examples of Jim Henson controlling Kermit from under water in a swamp.

The camera effects in Evil Dead. How these techniques evolved into Raimi’s Spider Man movies.

Kane Kramer’s mp3 player design from the 70’s.

Being called a usability expert is a bad thing. “hi, I’m going to find all the problems with your work.” we are collaborators, facilitators.

“why do I even have a job doing this?” this stuff is not second nature to everyone. Teach them.

Louis CK: everything is amazing right now and no one is happy. (talking about examples of technology)

“Everyone is pissed off and bitching, and we get to solve problems for them.”

#IceUX Vanilla Ice as UX visionary “stop. Collaborate and listen.” this song has so many UXisms it’s scary.

I’m currently putting Google Drive through the paces in place of Dropbox. So far so good, but time will tell if I revert back to Dropbox.
